Conditions heat will prevail from today and at least until the end of this week, according to meteorologists’ forecasts. A feature of the next few days will be that the maximum daily temperature will exceed daily 38-40 °C in many parts of our country, reaching at levels 6-8 °C above normal for the season.
At the same time, the prevalence of strong north winds over the Aegean Sea and eastern continental parts of the country is expected to contribute to maintaining the risk due to heat stress at relatively low (moderate to high) levels until tomorrow in island and coastal western Greece, the eastern Aegean and the northern and central mainland, which includes Eastern Attica, the Cyclades and Crete.
Temperatures today will reach 38 to 40 degrees Celsius on the mainland with the highest values recorded in Thessaly, central Macedonia and the western mainland. From Friday the temperature will rise a little more in the eastern continents.
During the weekend, Sunday and Monday, temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius cannot be ruled out, especially in the western continental areas.
In detail, according to the forecast models, in Athens the mercury will not drop below 38 degrees Celsius until next Monday, while on Sunday we are expected to see 40s. The city of Larissa will also experience temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius, with the mercury not dropping below 39 degrees from tomorrow until Monday.
Very high fire risk in Attica and 6 regions
Very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is currently predicted in the region of Attica and the Regional Units of Corinthia, Argolida, Laconia, Boeotia, Evros and Evros, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
Specifically, a very high fire risk is predicted for the following areas:
Region of Attica (including the island of Kythera)
Region of Peloponnese (Region of Corinth, Region of Argolida, Region of Laconia)
Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Evros Region)
Where the temperature topped 40 degrees yesterday
High temperatures were recorded by the network of automatic meteorological stations of meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens on Wednesday 10/07.
The maximum temperature was recorded in Zacharo, Ilia and was equal to 41.6 °C. In addition, the average maximum temperature in the country was equal to 35.0 °C, while 189 of the 508 active stations (at the present time) recorded temperatures above 37 °C. Finally, it is worth noting that at 28 weather stations the temperature exceeded 40 °C.
The weather today
A few clouds are expected across the country, which will increase locally during the warmer hours of the day.
The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 18 to 36 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from 20 to 37-39 and possibly locally 40 degrees, in Thessaly from 20 to 39-41, in Epirus from 22 to 38-39 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from 23 to 37-40 degrees and locally 41 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 23 to 37-39 degrees, in the East Aegean islands from 24 to 36-37, in the rest of the Aegean islands and in Crete from 24 to 33-35 degrees Celsius.
The winds will blow in the Aegean from northern directions with intensities of 4-5 Beaufort and locally 6 Beaufort and in the Ionian Sea north-northwest with intensities of 4-5 Beaufort.

Generally clear weather. Clouds will develop in the midday and afternoon hours on the mainland, so local rain is possible in the mountains.
Winds will blow in the west variable 2 to 4 Beaufort, in the east from the north 3 to 5 and locally in the Aegean Sea 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly mainly in the west and north and will be high in several areas of the mainland. It will reach 37 to 39 degrees Celsius in the mainland and in some places 40 and possibly 41 degrees Celsius. It should be noted that in coastal areas, due to the sea breeze, maximum values will be 3 to 5 degrees lower. In the island country the temperature will reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius and in some places on the Ionian Islands, the eastern Aegean and southern Crete 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.

Generally clear weather. In the midday and afternoon hours in the western and northern continents local clouds will develop, so in the mountains local rainfall is possible.
Winds will blow in the west west west northwest 2 to 4 Beaufort, in the east from the north 3 to 5 and locally in the Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly mainly in the west and north and will be very high.
It will reach 38 to 40 degrees Celsius in the mainland and 41 degrees Celsius in some places. It should be noted that in coastal areas, due to the sea breeze, the maximum values will be 2 to 4 degrees lower. In the island country the temperature will reach 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and in some places on the Ionian and eastern Aegean islands and southern Crete 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.

Generally clear weather. In the midday and afternoon hours clouds will develop on the mainland, so it is possible that there will be local rainfall, especially in the northern mountains.
Winds will blow west northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, and in the Aegean Sea 4 to 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly and will be at very high levels.
MONDAY 15-07-2024
Generally clear weather. Clouds will develop in the midday and afternoon hours in the western mainland.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 Beaufort, and in the Aegean Sea 4 to 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly further and will be very high.
