Rain and sporadic thunderstorms in the central and northern regions and from midday onwards in the rest of the mainland and in Crete are forecast today, while the weather will be unsettled at the weekend.

According to Alpha’s meteorologist, Giorgos Tsatrafyllia, until Sunday, spring storms will occur during the warm hours of the day mainly in the mainland and Crete, the temperature will remain at normal levels for the season, while the north winds blowing up to 5 Beaufort will keep the atmosphere clear. In addition, there will be morning fogs.
Of particular interest is the weather from the beginning of next week, since polar air masses from the Scandinavian peninsula will descend southwards and will affect Greece with winter conditions.
Warmest March – The hottest in Central Greece and the Peloponnese since 2010
According to the network of 53 meteorological stations of meteo.gr of the National Observatory of Athens (NAOA) that have been operating continuously since 2010, the average value of maximum daily temperatures in March 2025 was above the normal for the season in all regions of the country (compared to the average of the period 2010-2019).
March 2025 was characterized by many temperature swings. Many records of maximum temperatures (more than 140 at stations with an operating period of at least 10 years) were recorded during the period 10-15 March where maximum temperatures exceeded 30-32°C mainly in Crete and Central Greece.
In Central Greece and the Peloponnese, March 2025 was the warmest since 2010. In Northern Greece and Crete it was the 2nd warmest and in the other geographical regions the 3rd warmest since 2010. The largest positive deviations in March 2025 were recorded in Northern Greece, Crete and Central Greece of 12-15°C above normal for the season.
In the city of Athens, the average monthly maximum temperature deviation was +1.4°C, with 23 of the 31 days of the month being above normal for the season. In the city of Thessaloniki, 16 days of the month were above the 2010-2019 average, where the average maximum temperature for the month was 0.4 ºC above normal levels.
Today’s weather
In Epirus, Central and Western Macedonia and Thessaly, showers and occasional thunderstorms are expected, which will intensify during the warm hours of the day. In the rest of the country a few clouds are expected, which will increase during the warm hours of the day, mainly in the mainland and in Crete, with showers and thunderstorms. The phenomena may be locally intense.
The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 4 to 14 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 6 to 18-20 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly and Epirus from 7 to 18-19 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 7 to 20-22 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 9 to 18 degrees Celsius, in the Aegean Islands and Crete from 8 to 19-20 degrees Celsius, however in the Dodecanese the maximum temperatures will not fall below 12-13 degrees Celsius.
The winds, both in the Aegean and in the Ionian Sea will blow north-northwest with 4-5 Beaufort winds.
In Attica we expect a few clouds which will increase during the warm hours of the day, giving showers and occasional thunderstorms. The phenomena may be locally intense. Winds will blow from the northwest with intensities up to 4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 12 to 19 degrees Celsius.
In Thessaloniki we expect clouds with showers or thunderstorms at times. Winds will blow from various directions with intensities of 2-3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 11 to 17 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Saturday (05/04)
In the Sporades, Evia, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, the Cyclades and gradually the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, cloudy with local showers and occasional thunderstorms. The phenomena, which may be intense in the morning hours, will stop in the afternoon in most areas. In the rest of the country, a few clouds in places with local rain mainly in the midday and afternoon hours, so in the mainland there will be isolated thunderstorms. A little snow will fall in the central and northern continental highlands.
Winds will blow from the west at 3 to 4 and in the south locally 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly and in most areas will reach 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and locally in the mainland 19 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Sunday 06-04-2025
In the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese clouds, partly increasing with local rain and mainly in the north in the evening hours isolated thunderstorms. In the rest of the country initially local clouds with some local rain in the west and north. Gradually in the north, clouds will increase and there will be sporadic thunderstorms, mainly in eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the evening hours. Snowfall will occur in the northern mountains.
In the afternoon and in the evening, in the north of the mountainous regions in the northwestern part of the region.
Winds will blow from the west southwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, but gradually in the north they will shift to north 4 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly in the north.
