The evergreen Duran Duran are arriving in Athens in a few hours, ready for their rendezvous with the Greek audience set for Thursday, July 18th, at Plateia Nerou, as part of this year’s Release Athens.
The famous British pop band, which has sold over 100 million records worldwide and won many significant awards, is coming to Greece shortly after the release of their new album, “Danse Macabre.” They will present a grand show based on their pioneering sound and style, which have consistently expanded the boundaries of music, fashion, and art throughout their illustrious career.
This new album, praised by both fans and critics, sees the band drawing bright melodies from the darkness, with 13 tracks that include new material, thematic covers, and new versions of their classic and beloved songs.
Apart from Victoria De Angelis of Måneskin, who contributes bass and vocals on “Psycho Killer,” the album features former Duran Duran members Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo, Nile Rodgers, producers Josh Blair and Mr Hudson, and their long-time touring guitarist, Dom Brown.
This album follows a series of great achievements by Duran Duran. Their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 marked another career peak, while the same year the band headlined Hyde Park, played at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace, closed the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in their hometown of Birmingham, and embarked on a North American tour that included sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl.
The talented songwriter JC Stewart will open the night. Raised on a farm in Northern Ireland, he has already accomplished much at the age of 27. Passionate about music from a very young age, he started performing solo while still a student and released his first single, “Gold,” at 18.
At 21, he signed with Warner Music and went gold in Central and Northern Europe. Shortly after, he collaborated with Scottish superstar Lewis Capaldi, with whom he co-wrote the hit “Hollywood,” which has now surpassed 80 million streams on Spotify.
His cover of “I’ll Be There For You,” the theme song of the legendary series “Friends,” went viral worldwide, with Jennifer Aniston praising him, leading to his first appearances on American television. He has since returned to his home country and has been recognized as one of the best songwriters of his generation over the past two years.
