Very high risk fire (Risk Category 4) is expected tomorrow in the regions of Attica, Peloponnese and Crete, as well as in areas of Central Greece, North Aegean, Western Greece, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).
In particular, a very high risk of fire is predicted tomorrow for the following areas:
– Attica Region
– Region of Peloponnese
– Region of Central Greece (Boeotia, Evia, Fthiotida)
– Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi)
– Region of North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios)
– Region of Western Greece (Ilia, Achaia)
– Region of Crete
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent government departments involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above areas, so that they are in increased readiness for civil protection in order to deal immediately with any fire incidents.
At the same time, the GGP recommends that citizens should be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire through negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning debris, using spark-inducing machinery such as circular saws, welding devices, using outdoor barbecues, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that during the fire season, burning of fields is prohibited.
In case of noticing a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the call number 199.
