The average maximum temperature in the country reached 36.5°C, according to the recordings of the network of automatic meteorological stations of meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens.
This value is the highest during the period of 11 consecutive days of very high temperatures.
The relevant figure shows the distribution of the maximum temperature and the 8 stations of the network with the highest maximum. Thursday’s absolute maximum was recorded in Skala Messinia and was equal to 43.1°C.
As can be seen from the relevant information also presented in this figure, the temperature exceeded 37°C at 288 of the 519 currently active stations (~55%) and 40°C at 75 stations (~14%).
Generally clear weather. In the midday and afternoon hours, clouds will develop in the western and northern mainland and there will be local rain and isolated thunderstorms in the northern mountains. The winds will blow from the north in the Aegean Sea 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
Although the temperature will drop slightly in the north, it will remain high and will reach 38 to 39 degrees Celsius in the northern mainland and 40 to 42 degrees Celsius in the rest of the mainland, while in coastal areas it will be 2 to 4 degrees lower. In the Ionian Islands, the East Aegean Islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete it will reach 37 to 40 degrees Celsius and in the rest of the island country 35 to 37 degrees. Minimum temperatures will also remain high, ranging in most urban areas around 29 to 30 degrees Celsius.
