The fire that broke out just before 2pm on Wednesday (31/7) in central Euboea is running out of control.
According to the latest information, the fire brigade is battling with the flames to contain the fire front which is large burning on the Alonaki slope and heading towards Eretria. It started from Pisssonas and moved very quickly towards Afraati burning pine forest and farmland in its path.
The last message from 112 was sent at 17:22 and urged residents of Kamari, Kalyvia and Agios Georgios Armas to move away towards Chalkida.

Shortly before 4.30pm a message was sent from 112 for evacuation of the Afrati area: “Forest fire in your area. If you are in the area of Afrati Evia, please move away towards Vasilikos” the message said.

Earlier a message was sent from 112 to those in the Pison area to be on alert: “Forest fire in the Pissona area of Evia. Stay at ετοιμότητα‼️ Follow the instructions of the authorities,” he said.

Fire brigade forces have been reinforced and now 120 firefighters are operating with 5 hiking teams, and 40 vehicles. From the air, 11 aircrafts and 3 helicopters are operating, including one helicopter for coordination. There is assistance from water trucks too.
