Kasselakis: After Yesterday’s Dark Day for Justice in Our Country, It’s Time for Unforgiving Questions

The president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis, stated in a social media post: "After yesterday's dark day for justice in our country, it's time for unforgiving questions"

Newsroom July 31 12:52

“Let us assume that the announcement by the Supreme Court prosecutor is not disgraceful, as the legal community of the country claims, but reflects the truth,” Kasselakis said. He then called on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to answer “if the government did not use Predator (as happened in other countries where the malicious software was used), then who is using it against the political, journalistic, and economic world of the country” and “whether Greece is an open field where some are spying on everyone while the Greek government remains indifferent.”

“Shall we assume that all targets of the EYP were legally monitored? Therefore, half of the government officials were legally monitored. Does this mean that your cabinet, Mr. Mitsotakis, consists of people suspected of national security issues who require surveillance? Is Target 5046c Kostis Hatzidakis… nationally dangerous? Do you have a government or a cabinet of spies?” Kasselakis questioned and added:

“According to the announcement by the Supreme Court, the surveillance of all ‘targets’ of the EYP was legal, including the monitoring of former Chief of Defense Staff Konstantinos Floros. Mr. Mitsotakis, clarify whether the Chief of the Armed Forces was a person suspected of national security threats. If so, why did you choose him? If not, why was he monitored by the EYP? Who else, apart from the EYP, is legally monitoring in this country? Is there another entity we are unaware of? Who took control of the EYP? The Prime Minister.

To whom did he hand over the keys? To his nephew Mr. Dimitriadis, in the office next door at Maximos Mansion.

So, even if what Ms. Ateilini claims is true, the responsibility returns to the same room, to the same people.”

“So, the Supreme Court judged that Maximos Mansion legally monitored its ministers and its opponents! But if it is not Maximos Mansion that monitored half of the political-economic system of the country, then Mr. Mitsotakis, another ruthless question arises for you: Who is monitoring this country?” Kasselakis emphasized, noting that “from all the above, it is evident that the scandal is so deep and the government so connected to it, that any attempt at whitewashing only spreads the stain of responsibility further.”

“This dystopia is not normality. It is a dark interlude. With the effort of all democratic citizens, justice will prevail,” concluded the SYRIZA president.
