Visitors to the Acropolis Museum will have the opportunity to enjoy the August full moon with a view of the Parthenon and the sounds of music. In the courtyard of the Museum, a concert will take place at 9 p.m. featuring the historic musical ensemble of the Hellenic Air Force Band.
The evening’s program will include well-known Greek and international songs about the moon and music from the cinema, and admission will be free for the public.
The Hellenic Air Force Band consists of officers and non-commissioned officers who are also highly trained musicians who have studied at various conservatories in the country and have joined the Air Force after exams. The band participates in international festivals abroad and leads the parade of Greek expatriates held on Fifth Avenue in New York City on the occasion of the March 25th celebrations. The band is conducted by Captain (AF) Alexandros Litsardopoulos. The performers are Sofia Zova (soprano) and Angelos Mousikas (baritone).
On Monday, August 19, 2024, the Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as on every Monday.
Due to the full moon on the same day, the Museum and the second-floor restaurant will be open to visitors from 8 p.m. to midnight. Regardless of the Hellenic Air Force Band concert taking place in the courtyard at 9 p.m., entrance to the Museum will be with a regular general admission ticket.
The “Excavation Museum” will not be open for the full moon event.
