Evangelia Platanioti and Sofia Malkogeorgou finished their artistic swimming duet at the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games in 6th place.
The Greek duo successfully performed their routine in the free segment of the event, where, just like in yesterday’s technical segment, they had the highest difficulty coefficient (60.200) among the 17 participating pairs. They accumulated 281.8418 points and ranked sixth in the free routine standings.
Overall, Platanioti/Malkogeorgou scored a total of 532.3002 points, moving up two places compared to yesterday, surpassing the pairs from Spain and Japan to finish sixth. This is the highest ranking Greek artistic swimming has ever achieved in the Olympics, equaling Christina Thalassiniadou’s sixth-place finish in the solo event at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
As expected, the gold medal was won by twin sisters Liuyi Wang and Qianyi Wang from China with 566.4783 points, while the other two podium spots were taken by countries that had never before won a medal in the Olympic Games. Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe from Great Britain took second place with 558.5367 points, with a narrow margin over the Dutch sisters Bregje and Noortje de Brouwer, who finished third with 558.3963 points. Just missing the podium in fourth place were Anna-Maria and Eirini Alexandri, representing Austria, who were second after the technical program.
