Lazaros Lesic is no longer with us. In recent times, he faced health issues that he could not overcome. He passed away at the age of 85.
Lesic is closely associated with Aris in Greece, having taken over as coach after Giannis Ioannidis’ departure. Notably, he was the last coach to win a championship with the Thessaloniki team in 1991. Previously, he served as an assistant to Ioannidis on the Aris bench.
Lesic also served on the bench of the unified Yugoslav national team (as part of the coaching staff), winning a gold medal at the 1970 World Cup.
Aris BC sent its own farewell message, stating, “Lazaros has gone to join Giannis so they can coach Aris from above once again. Lazaros is no longer here, but he will never truly ‘leave.’ He will always be in our hearts and souls. The Aris family is in mourning. From today, we are poorer. Lazaros Lesic, we will never forget you.”
Lefteris Subotic also said his farewell, sharing the sad news: “Safe travels to the coach, friend, and mentor. Rest in peace, Ninja.”
