Serres: 14-year-old arrested for arson at an elementary school

His parents were also arrested for child neglect

A 14-year-old was arrested on charges of arson for the large fire that broke out on the evening of Sunday, August 25th, at an elementary school in Neo Souli, in the Municipality of Emmanouil Pappas, Serres.

According to Diktyo TV, the minor was arrested on the afternoon of August 26th, and a case was filed against him for arson by officers of the Emmanouil Pappas Police Department.

The police also arrested the child’s parents for neglect of a minor.

According to the news outlet, the authorities apprehended the 14-year-old following a preliminary investigation in which four of his friends were questioned. All four children stated that they were eyewitnesses and saw him using matches to set fire to the insulation material on the rear wall of the school.

It is worth noting that the school building, which burned down, was new, having been inaugurated only about two years ago.
