The actor had retired in recent years from acting as he was facing health problems

Newsroom September 1 04:00

Spyros Bibilas announced the sad news a few minutes ago through his personal Facebook profile. He wrote:
“As the month changes, our beloved, multi-talented colleague, friend, and the ever-smiling child of the theater has passed away. A spiritual man who, with every gesture, contributed to culture! Our dear Dánis Katranídis, this sad news shakes our entire artistic family… The void you leave is immense…”

Who Was Dánis Katranídis

Dánis Katranídis was born on August 4, 1949, in Aigaleo, Greece. He graduated from the Higher Drama School of Athens “Giorgos Theodosiadis” in 1971. Between 1971 and 1978, he was an actor at the National Theater. In the 1978-1979 theater season, he made history in the role of the emcee in the legendary production of Cabaret by Aliki Vougiouklaki. He performed in all genres of theater, from tragedy and comedy to musicals and revue shows. He also had a notable presence in radio theater. Katranídis taught at the Higher Drama School “Iasmos” and the “Vasilis Diamantopoulos” Theater Workshop. He was a sea lover and skilled sailor, with numerous participations and wins in open sea sailing competitions.

Personal Life

In 1971, he married fellow actress Mirka Papakonstantinou, who had been his classmate at the Theodosiadis School. They divorced in 1977. Katranídis married three times but did not have children, something he spoke about in an interview:
“I married three times because I initially wanted to start a family. The marriages were spaced far apart—17 years between the first and second, and 10 years between the second and third. That’s enough time to say one can build a life, start a family, and have children. I don’t regret it. The reason I didn’t have children wasn’t due to medical reasons. It was for another reason, and as it turned out, it was for the best. I have no complaints. I’ve been blessed with more than I expected, both in work and in life. I’ve made many mistakes, and I thank those who treated me with kindness.”

Health Issues

In mid-September 2021, reports surfaced that Katranídis was dealing with a serious health issue. He denied these reports, saying he was recovering after surgery. Speaking on the show “To Proino,” he mentioned that he had undergone surgery for hernia removal and was in the recovery stage at home.
