Marinakis on electricity prices: Goal to keep prices below 15 cents per megawatt-hour

A downward trend in the prices reaching consumers has begun to emerge, according to the government spokesperson

Newsroom September 2 02:10

“The goal of government policy is to keep prices for consumers below 15 cents per megawatt-hour, which was the case last December,” said government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis during a press briefing.

He also emphasized that “the Ministry of Environment and Energy will soon announce state subsidies that will help maintain prices at these levels for consumers.”

“Electricity prices for September have been announced. It’s a given that demand for electricity increases during the summer. However, with the gradual decrease in demand, a downward trend in the prices reaching consumers has started to be observed, based on the announcements from providers for September. For example, the price of the green tariff from the main provider is down 3% compared to August.

The goal of government policy is to keep prices for consumers below 15 cents per megawatt-hour, which was the case last December. The relevant Ministry of Environment and Energy will soon announce state subsidies that will help maintain prices at these levels for consumers.”

It is noted that, on average, over the last seven months, prices have been slightly above 13 cents per megawatt-hour. “We have proven that we support citizens in emergency situations and will continue to do so as long as public finances allow without jeopardizing the country’s stability,” said the government spokesperson.
