The US Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, reiterated today that the connection of the electricity distribution networks between Greece and Cyprus represents a great opportunity for Cyprus.
“I think,” she stated, “that we have made our views clear regarding the Great Sea Interconnector and the importance of ending Cyprus’s isolation in terms of its electricity supply, and we see this as a significant opportunity for Cyprus.”
A meeting is currently taking place at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, chaired by Nikos Christodoulides, with the participation of the Ministers of Energy of Greece and Cyprus, representatives from the European Commission, the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece, the company NEXANS, which is constructing the cable, and the Legal Service of Cyprus.
During the meeting, the Cypriot side will request certain information and clarifications to address concerns regarding the cost that Cypriot consumers are expected to pay.
