The Russian Defense Ministry said that more than 100 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down over the territory of Russia overnight, in raids that it said caused limited damage but no casualties.
“101 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed by anti-aircraft defense systems on duty,” the ministry said via Telegram.
43 of them were destroyed in the skies of the Bryansk (western) region, which neighbors Ukraine. The local government assured that according to preliminary information, there are no casualties or damage.
Another 18 were destroyed in Krasnodar (southwest), a region bordering Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula annexed to Russia in 2014.
According to its regional governor, Veniamin Kadratiev, the drone debris fall caused a “fire, which spread to explosives” in the Tikharetsky region. Residents were hurriedly evacuated, however no damage was reported, he added via Telegram.
Moscow has recently announced almost daily shootdowns of dozens of Ukrainian drones.
