Starting from 8:30 AM today, Monday, the new platform id.gov.gr is operational.
Citizens can easily and user-friendly schedule digital appointments for the issuance of a new type of identity card or for its replacement due to changes in personal information, expiration, wear and tear, or age.
With this new modern platform, the number of appointments will increase, thus reducing the waiting time for fulfilling citizens’ requests, with the availability of digital appointments starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 1st. This design was implemented as part of the cooperation between the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.
The id.gov.gr platform ensures that there is a time gap between the appointments of individuals for the same Identity Card Issuing Authority, sufficient for one appointment to be completed before the next begins.
Additionally, the hours and days of available appointments may vary, taking into account restrictions in the schedule and the availability of the Issuing Authority, based on time intervals and job positions.
The process for scheduling an appointment is as follows:
- The citizen selects an Issuing Authority based on their permanent or temporary residence address in Greece, along with a specific day and time from the availability list for in-person service. Their details are automatically retrieved from the Citizens’ Register and the National Communication Register (EMEp). If the citizen’s details are not updated in the EMEp, they must either update them on-site or complete them as declared.
- Upon completion of the request submission, the citizen will receive an email with basic information for the appointment’s processing, along with the contact details of the selected Issuing Authority.
- The appointment scheduling request can be rescheduled, canceled, or submitted again, no later than one (1) hour before the start of the scheduled appointment.
- At various intervals before the start of the scheduled appointment, the interested party will receive a reminder message from the platform at the email they provided.
It is important to note that in the case of loss or theft of the Identity Card, the citizen must contact the competent Issuing Authority by phone, based on their permanent or temporary residence address in Greece, and request to schedule an appointment for the issuance of a new Identity Card.
