Kamala Harris: Repeated scandals with her husband – He slapped his ex-wife and had impregnated his daughter’s nanny

International media bring to light aspects of his past with incidents in 2008 and 2012 - The assault had reportedly occurred at the Cannes Film Festival

Newsroom October 3 06:01

Huge blow for the Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, after the new information coming to light about the inappropriate and abusive behavior of her husband, Douglas Emhoff, in his past relationships.

The fact is that the new information making the rounds on the internet tarnishes Harris’ image, the German newspaper Bild and the British Daily Mail point out. The allegations against 59-year-old Emhoff are shocking and put the current US vice-president in a precarious position, the Daily Mail argues.

This latest scandal came just weeks before the election (November 5), seems like a gift for 78-year-old Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Incident at a charity gala in Cannes

Emhoff, once a big-time lawyer, allegedly brutally punched his then-girlfriend in the face on May 24, 2012, after a charity gala during the Cannes Film Festival.

The gala was attended by many celebrities, including actors Antonio Banderas, Alec Baldwin, legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and Paris Hilton. According to reports, the slap received by Emhoff’s companion in front of the Hotel du Cap was so hard that the victim did a 180-degree turn. The reason for hitting her was jealousy, the reports point out.

The couple was waiting for a taxi when the girl opened her purse and handed money to an event employee. Only, in addition to the money she gave him, she briefly put her hand on his shoulder. Emhoff thought she was flirting with him, according to the report cited by international media.

An acquaintance of the then-couple told the Daily Mail that the victim called from the taxi crying after the incident and detailed the horror she experienced. The woman, codenamed “Jane”, is a successful New York lawyer. Two other friends confirmed to reporters the personal relationship she had with Emhoff for three months. Moreover, there are photos showing them side by side.

“Jane” did not comment after the revelations

Following the media revelations, Emhoff was forced to admit that he had an affair with his daughter’s nanny, Nayenne Naylor, during his first marriage in 2008.

“Jane” said Emhoff had told her that the nanny had become pregnant but then miscarried. She had then accused him of being responsible for the miscarriage. The nanny, however, claims that the big lawyer settled the case by paying a settlement of $80,000.

At the same time, Douglas Emhoff appears smiling at his wife’s side, supporting her with all his might, as he claims. He even recently appeared in a television studio as a supporter of women against “male toxicity.”

Former White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, now a journalist for the US network MSNBC, was quick to praise him during an interview on Sunday, describing him as someone who helped change “the perception of masculinity”. Emhoff said he has supported women throughout his life: “I’ve just always been that way!” he said.

The German newspaper also comments that the episode does not only damage the 59-year-old lawyer’s reputation. The outgoing US vice president has said in recent years that women who have been victims of sexual assault should be “believed without any ‘buts.'”

Normally, Kamala Harris’ initial reactions to the shocking revelations incriminating her husband should echo her earlier statements: “Believe the victim!”, comments the newspaper Bild.
