UPDATE: The process for the election of the new PASOK leadership has begun, as the elections will be held in two rounds, today and on October 13, if a second vote is needed.
The election process appears to be attracting massive participation, with Charilaou Trikoupis having prepared intensively over the past period, with party members and friends across Greece and in selected polling stations abroad turning out at the polls.
According to official data, 154,000 people voted by 13:30, 21.5% more than in 2021. In the first two hours, 18,000 citizens had voted, with participation being up by 31% compared to 2021.

The election campaign for Nikos Androulakis, Pavlos Geroulanos, Nadia Giannakopoulou, Anna Diamantopoulou, Charis Doukas, Michalis Katrinis has been completed and their staffs will see the results of their efforts today.

The messages reaching the staffs of the six leadership candidates are encouraging, as they indicate a high turnout at the polls, which may even lead to an extension of the electoral process, as was the case in the previous 2021 contest. The polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.with the possibility of an extension in case of increased turnout.
The process will take place in 950 polling stations, both in Greece and in many cities abroad, in order to ensure quick and direct voter access. Party members and friends of the party will have to pay the fee of 3 euros to participate in the vote. All Greek citizens, as well as permanent foreign residents of the country aged 16 and over (born in 2008 and earlier) are entitled to vote.
Voters may vote at any polling station in the country, regardless of their place of residence or the place where they exercise their right to vote in national and local elections. Participation in the procedure requires the presentation of identification documents such as a police identity card, passport or driving licence. For 16-year-olds and foreigners who are not included in the National Electoral Register, identification is required in the form of an identity card, passport and their AMKA, while Cypriots require a Cypriot identity card and AMKA.
The AMKA must be obtained from a public document (e.g. e-EFKA), which will be presented to the Election Committee. The voting process is expected to be simple and quick to accommodate the increased number of voters expected to turn up at polling stations.
It is important to note that in order to participate in the second round, voters must have voted in the first round. This means that those who wish to participate in the final process of the PASOK leadership election will have to go to the polling station today, while they will be able to vote at any of the country’s polling stations, regardless of where they voted in the first round.
The choice of the new leadership is crucial for the future of PASOK, as the party seeks to re-enter the country’s political scene in a dynamic way. Voter participation and mass turnout at polling stations will determine the result and the party’s course in the next day. The interest is intense and the PASOK elections are an important political event that is being closely followed by citizens and other political parties alike.
