A few years ago, for Greek citizens, the idea of having in one place electronically and easily/immediately accessible all their documents concerning the public sector seemed like a science fiction scenario. In the very near future, however, this will be a tangible reality, through the Citizen’s Thyra, the digital mailbox of gov.gr, the official portal of the State for the electronic services of the Greek public administration.
Storage space
It is a personal, secure electronic space where citizens can store and manage documents issued or requested by various public services. Through the Thyriad, citizens can access documents that concern them, such as demographic certificates, civil registry acts, affidavits, etc., without having to visit an office and wait in a queue.
The Ministry of Digital Governance plans to integrate the Citizen’s Box into the Gov.gr Wallet app, which is already available for storing digital documents such as ID cards, driver’s licenses, insurance, etc. This development will allow citizens to have instant access to documents such as affidavits, authorizations, citizenship certificates, civil registration documents, copies of criminal records and more, all from within their digital wallet.
The goal is to create a direct channel of communication between state-citizens to meet their obligations and protect their rights. The integration of the Citizen’s Wallet into the Gov.gr Wallet will provide several benefits to citizens, including:
1/ Easier access to documents: Citizens will be able to access their digital documents through a single app on their mobile phone.
2/ Reduction of bureaucracy: Citizens will not have to travel to public offices to pick up documents, as they will have them all stored in the Gov.gr Wallet.
They will all be stored in the Government Gov.gov.
3/ Interoperability: The integration of Citizen’s Wallet into Gov.gr Wallet will allow quick access to documents during transactions with public services.
4/ Update and easy document management: citizens will receive notifications of new documents issued on their behalf while being able to manage older documents.
In Wallet
“We are taking another step to simplify the interaction of citizens with the state,” Dimitris Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance, tells THEMA and continues:
“We will soon integrate the Citizen’s Box into Gov.gr Wallet and will enable citizens to have easy and quick access to their documents directly from their mobile phone. The creation of a digital contact point with the state enhances trust in digital services, which is essential for enhancing digital transformation.
