A 45-year-old man from Syria accused of rape and sexual acts with a six-year-old girl was arrested.
The man, according to a Greek police statement, is accused of committing criminal acts against a minor under the age of 12 inside an apartment in Athens.
In the days leading up to the incident, the man reportedly approached the minor, and under unclear circumstances, took her to his apartment.
Medical staff at a local hospital later treated the child and, recognizing the nature of the injuries, promptly informed law enforcement.
Officers from the Child Protection Unit intervened, successfully identifying and arresting the suspect. An investigation is ongoing.
