Acclaimed director Theodoros Terzopoulos was honored with the Grand Theatre Award of the Hellenic Association of Theatre Critics and Performing Arts for the 2023–2024 season. The second annual awards ceremony took place today at the B&E Goulandris Foundation.
The committee explained that Terzopoulos was selected for his tireless, 40-year career, which culminated in his production of “Oresteia,” performed this summer at Epidaurus and on tour in Greece and Cyprus.
Stefania Goulioti Wins Best Female Performance
Stefania Goulioti received the award for Best Female Performance for her lead role in the production “The Doctor,” staged by the Amphitheatre of Spyros A. Evangelatos. This production is being repeated this year. Argyris Xafis won the Best Male Performance Award for his role in “The Most Beautiful Body Ever Found in This Place,” presented at the Theseion Theatre.
Best Director Award
Katerina Mavrogeorgi won the Best Director Award for her adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre” in the play “Jane” at Theseion Theatre. The Best Production Award was given to “The Loser” by Thomas Bernhard, staged by the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera and directed by Hector Lygizos.
In total, 17 awards and the Grand Theatre Award were presented, along with two honorary mentions.
