Christopher Papakaliatis: His father, Manolis, in intensive care after being hit by a motorbike

The 76-year-old businessman was struck by a motorbike while attempting to cross the street in the Knossos area

Manolis Papakaliatis, the well-known businessman and sports figure, and father of actor and director Christoforos Papakaliatis, has been in serious condition in the ICU of Venizeleio Hospital since yesterday, Monday, following a traffic accident.

According to reports from Cretapost, Manolis Papakaliatis underwent a lengthy surgery after being severely injured when he was hit by a motorbike.

Patris.gr reports that he suffered a cranial hematoma, spinal injuries, and fractures to his thigh, pelvis, back, and shin.

How the accident happened

The incident occurred late Monday afternoon in the Agios Ioannis area of Knossos when a motorbike struck Manolis Papakaliatis as he tried to cross the road.

Ambulances from the National Emergency Center (EKAV) quickly arrived on the scene and transported the 76-year-old businessman and a minor who was a passenger on the motorbike.

Both injured individuals were taken to Venizeleio Hospital, with the businessman sustaining severe injuries and the minor suffering only light injuries.

Who is Manolis Papakaliatis?

Manolis Papakaliatis is active in the tourism sector, owning several hotel units in various areas. He is also heavily involved in sports.

He has served as president of the “Heraklion OAA” tennis club, president of Heraklion’s basketball team (KAE), and of the Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association (ESAKE). He was also a former member of the Cretan Referee Association and was involved in the management of the OFI football club in 2010.
