Gusty Winds, Temperature Drop, and Scattered Showers Across Greece – National Weather Service Issues Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory today, warning of gusty winds reaching 7 to 8 Beaufort across the southeastern Aegean Sea, the Icarian Sea, the Kafireas Strait, and the central Aegean Sea. A significant temperature drop is expected across the country, and drought conditions are set to persist.

Today’s Forecast

Expect mostly sunny skies with partial cloud cover, especially in the east and south. Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades, Evia, Central Greece, Northern Peloponnese, and Crete’s mountainous areas will see occasional showers, gradually easing through the day. Later, scattered showers are anticipated in southern Peloponnese. Visibility may be limited in some inland areas during evening and early morning hours.

  • Northern Greece: 5–18°C, with lows of 0–15°C in Western Macedonia.
  • Central and Southern Greece: 9–20°C
  • Western Greece: 10–22°C (Epirus from 6–19°C)
  • Cyclades and Crete: 15–19°C, up to 22°C in southern Crete
  • Eastern Aegean Islands: 11–18°C
  • Dodecanese: 14–22°C

Wind Conditions

  • Aegean Sea: Northerly winds, moderate to strong (5–7 Beaufort), intensifying in the central and southern regions.
  • Ionian Sea: Easterly winds, light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort), reaching 5 Beaufort in the Patraikos Gulf.

  • Macedonia & Thrace: Generally clear in Thrace, with occasional clouds. Temperatures between 7–19°C, dropping lower in Western Macedonia.
  • Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese: Clear skies, easterly winds turning northerly (3–5 Beaufort), with temperatures of 8–23°C.
  • Cyclades & Crete: Generally clear in the Cyclades, with northern winds (6–8 Beaufort) and temperatures from 13–22°C.
  • Thessaly, Sporades: Partly cloudy with isolated showers, variable winds (3–5 Beaufort), and temperatures from 8–19°C.
  • Attica: Clear skies in the afternoon, northern winds (4–7 Beaufort), and temperatures between 12–20°C.
  • Thessaloniki: Cloudy in the morning with potential light rain, clearing by noon. Variable winds at 3–4 Beaufort, temperatures from 9–19°C.

Outlook for Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Expect clouds with isolated rain in central Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades, central Greece, and parts of Crete. Isolated thunderstorms may occur over the southern Ionian Sea. Temperatures will slightly drop in northeastern areas, ranging between 15–24°C across the country.

Clear skies will dominate, with local cloud cover in Thessaly, eastern Greece, Sporades, Evia, and Crete. Morning and evening visibility may be limited inland, with possible fog in mountainous regions. Winds will remain strong in the Aegean, occasionally reaching up to 8 Beaufort, with temperatures remaining stable.
