Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday, Israeli media reported.
His replacement will be Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
The two men have had a difficult political relationship and have been at odds on different occasions each time, even in the middle of the war after Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, 2023.
In a statement, the Israeli Prime Minister mentions, among other things, that “my greatest commitment as Prime Minister is to maintain the security of Israel.”
He emphasizes that “I have made many efforts to bridge these gaps, but they have continued to widen amid the war, more than ever.” He also adds that “complete trust is required between the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense.”
