Nikos Chardalias, Prefect of Attica, has resigned from his position as First Vice President of the Union of Greek Regions (ENPE).
According to information, Mr.Chardalias in his letter invokes unfulfilled obligations and workload, while the process for the election of a new president of the ENPE is expected to move forward after the departure of Apostolos Tzitzikostas, who took over the portfolio of the Commissioner for Transport at the European Commission.
Nikos Chardalias remains a member of ENPE, while his move to step down from the position of First Vice President puts the “burden” of the election process of a new president on the Second Vice President, Giorgios Hadjimarkos, Regional Governor of South Aegean.
Hadjimarkos is reportedly the frontrunner to take over the leadership of the ENPE and is expected to convene the Board of Directors to elect the new President.
The President is expected to announce the appointment of the new President of the Council.
However, for the process to proceed, a new regional leader or leaders must first be elected in Central Macedonia.
