About 50 Greek families are living in Aleppo, which has been occupied by jihadist groups in recent days, with all of them safe, diplomatic sources stress developments in Syria and the Greek diaspora in the northern Syrian city.

They stress that all Greeks in Aleppo are safe.

The Greek embassy in Damascus and the Greek consul in Aleppo are in constant contact with the Greeks living in the city. Greeks in the city have been advised to avoid moving.

The Greek embassy has received 40 requests from Greeks and their associated members to be included in a relocation operation to be undertaken by the United Nations. The UN convoy will have a final destination of Damascus.

Meanwhile, the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains on standby for any assistance required.

Greece, the diplomatic sources also stress, has always stood by Christians in the Middle East, as it did during the civil war in Syria.
