Greek defense plan: Dendias announces fortified security in the Aegean

The Defence Minister spoke of "a wall which will be able to flexibly and from the very many islands we have, which will in fact be converted into power units, to prevent, to prevent any thought or attempt to overthrow the regime in the Aegean"

Newsroom December 6 03:54

“The Navy remains the continuator of these traditions, namely, Greek sovereignty in the Aegean. And it also remains the guarantor of the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Hellenism at sea,” Nikos Dendias said, during his address at the Naval Cadet School, on the occasion of the celebration of St. Nicholas, patron saint of the Navy.

The Minister of National Defence announced that “to defend its sovereignty and sovereign rights, Greece will proceed, within the framework of the ‘Agenda 2030′, to the creation of a missile wall to protect the Aegean Sea”, referring to “a wall that can be flexibly built from the many islands we have, which will be converted into power units, can prevent, prevent any thought or attempt to overthrow the regime in the Aegean that international treaties, international law, international law of the sea have created and consolidated.”

The minister described the “Agenda 2030” as not only “a program for the purchase of weapons systems” but “a different concept. A concept that looks to the future, recognizing the enormous changes that have already taken place.”

“The 2030 Agenda envisages a modern system to meet the challenges and of course envisages a modern and powerful Navy. Let me say, the most modern and the most powerful in the history of our Motherland,” Dendias also described, who also focused on the provisions in favor of the Armed Forces’ manpower.

“The State and society understand the importance of your mission. Already, as you know, a special compensation for the crews of warships and compensation for crews participating in special missions have recently been established,” the Minister stressed, adding that “I want to be honest, this is not enough. I understand, and I want you to know, that a broader approach is required to the consideration that the Homeland pays to those who defend it, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year”. “And I will do everything I can to make that happen,” Dendias concluded.

In detail, Mr. Dendias’ greeting:

Summary of the speech.
Officers, Petty Officers, Sailors, and civilian personnel of our Navy,

We all celebrate together today the memory of Saint Nicholas, Patron Saint of Sailors, Patron Saint of our huge merchant fleet, the largest on the planet, Patron Saint of our Navy.

And we commemorate the anniversary of the victorious naval battles of the Balkan Wars. The Battle of Elli and the Battle of Lemnos. These naval battles consolidated Greek dominance in the Archipelago.

I know very well that the Navy remains a continuator of these traditions, that is, of Greek sovereignty in the Aegean. And it also remains the guarantor of the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Hellenism at sea.

Women and men of the Navy – the Chief of the Naval Staff referred to this at length – “Agenda 2030” is not a program to buy weapons systems, it is an altogether different concept. A concept that looks to the future, recognizing the enormous changes that have already taken place.

I would like to tell you that in addition to the series of building, flying, and modernization, which have already been mentioned, Greece, to defend its sovereignty and sovereign rights, will proceed, within the framework of the “Agenda 2030”, to the creation of a missile wall to protect the Aegean Sea.

A wall that can flexibly and from the very many islands that we have, which will be turned into power units, prevent, prevent any thought or attempt to overthrow the regime in the Aegean that international treaties, international law, international law of the sea have created and solidified.

The 2030 Agenda provides for a modern system to meet challenges and of course, provides for a modern and powerful Navy. Let me say, the most modern and the most powerful in the history of our country.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The sea is the natural space of Hellenism, the natural space of the Greeks.

I would like to express here my deepest regret for the recent loss of the Navy officer, Petty Officer Alexandros Ketikoglou, during training, and during duty.

I wish his loved ones that St. Nicholas gives them courage and strength.

Members of the Navy,

The state and society understand the importance of your mission. Already, as you know, special compensation for the crews of warships and compensation for crews participating in special missions have recently been instituted.

But I want to be honest, that is not enough. I understand, and I want you to know, that a broader treatment of the consideration that the Homeland pays to those who defend it, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, is required. And I will do everything I can to make that happen.

You are the Greece of honor, of honor, of honor, of dignity. Greece for example.

I would like to end by expressing my best wishes to the women and men of the Coast Guard, the Greek Merchant Navy, and the Greek Coast Guard.

I wish that St. Nicholas will be a protector to anyone who sails the sea, but that he will also be a protector to his family, who live ashore and wait for him.
