The British Prime Minister and the leader of the main opposition party argue almost daily about everything, from immigration and taxation to public spending. But today, they found a new topic to quarrel over: whether sandwiches are a proper lunch.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch brought up the subject in an interview with the weekly magazine The Spectator, questioning not only whether sandwiches qualify as a sufficient lunch but also whether people should take breaks for lunch at all.

“What is a lunch break? Lunch is for wimps. I bring food with me and eat while I work. There’s no time… Sometimes I’ll have a steak,” she told The Spectator. “I’m not someone who enjoys sandwiches. I don’t think sandwiches are real food; they’re what you eat for breakfast,” she added.

In response, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the Prime Minister often enjoys a tuna sandwich and occasionally a cheese toastie.

“I think the Prime Minister was surprised to hear the Opposition Leader say she eats a steak for lunch, but I think he’s perfectly content with a sandwich for lunch,” the spokesperson told reporters.

“It’s a great British institution, and I appreciate that it contributes £8 billion to the UK economy,” the spokesperson added.
