Dominique Pelico was found guilty on Thursday morning of all charges brought against him regarding the repeated rape of his wife, Gisèle, by himself and other men.
The charges against Dominique Pelicot also involved photographs of his daughter, Caroline.
The sentence against Pelicot is expected to be announced later, with the prosecutor requesting a 20-year prison term.
Minutes after Pelicot’s conviction, the court also found the second of the 51 defendants guilty.
According to Le Parisien, the court will first rule on the guilt or innocence of all the defendants before announcing the sentences to be imposed.
It is worth noting that 72-year-old Gisèle Pelicot refused to have the trial held behind closed doors, which she could have requested as a victim of rape, choosing instead to face her rapists publicly. This decision has elevated her to a feminist icon.
“We thank her because, for many women who are victims of rape, the shame has now changed sides,” said Pascale Platar.
