The mother of the 23-year-old who was stabbed in Paros shared her heartbreaking account of the incident. “I hope no mother ever has to go through what I went through. One of my children saved the other. My older son was alone, and they had knocked him down and were beating him. Just in time, my younger son arrives, sees the situation, and jumps in to separate them, and that’s when they stabbed him. The younger one says ‘I feel something in my back,’ the older one lifts his shirt and sees the blood, then goes after them and managed to hit a couple of them,” the children’s mother recounted in an interview with the STAR television station.
“The doctor called me over and said ‘we’re playing with seconds, he needs to go straight into surgery, his life is hanging by a thread because the wound started as a small almond-sized puncture and now the hole in the lung is as big as an egg.’ They told me if it had been a little bigger, he would have died,” the mother added.
It should be noted that the whole incident started over a trivial matter when the 23-year-old and his 33-year-old brother made a remark to a group of minors. All five minors were arrested following the violent attack.
“I feel lucky to be alive”
Meanwhile, the victim of the brutal attack underwent surgery at the hospital in Syros and is now out of danger. Speaking from his hospital room on MEGA, he expressed how fortunate he feels to be alive.
“I feel lucky that I didn’t suffer anything more serious and that I’m still alive. One of two knife wounds hit my lung and punctured it, that’s why they brought me to Syros,” he said.
The 16-year-old perpetrator was identified by the victim and confessed his actions to the police. The young assailant lives in Athens and was on the island visiting his grandmother for Christmas.
