There will be four phases to the new bad weather that began late Friday night in Greecey. It has already snowed in the north of Attica, in the Hippocratic State, while the first villages in Evia and the mountains of Lesbos were dressed in white.
In Attica, traffic has also been stopped on Parnithos Avenue from the height of the cable car and on the Penteli-Nea Makris ring road from the height of “414” to Agios Petros.
Shortly after 12 midnight on Friday, dense snowfall began in Seta, Evia. This is the mountain village of the municipality of Eretria that is the first to dress in white every winter, according to evima.gr.
On the morning of Friday 27/12 the village was supplied with salt by the Municipality in order to cope with the snow, according to eviaonline.gr.
The four phases of the bad weather
At the heart of the bad weather is Evia, for which EMF director Thodoris Kolydas predicts that “it will receive the greatest amount of snow”. That is why the 112 has sounded in the region, calling on residents to limit their travel.
According to the EMY director, in its first phase the bad weather will affect eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the islands of the North Aegean.Progressively the weather disturbance will shift south and enter the North Aegean where we will see thunderstorms at low altitudes and steep snowstorms at mountainous altitudes due to the temperature difference. Snow will also be received by Pelion, but without causing concern. Basically from Magnesia and below we will have heavy snowfall as the bad weather wave will move even further south reaching Boeotia, Attica and Evia. As Mr. Kolydas stressed to us, Evia is expected to receive plenty of snow but at the same time, rains, thunderstorms and snowstorms will be recorded. On Saturday we will see snowfall in the known spots i.e. in Vilia, Hippocrates State and Penteli but not at low altitudes as the mountains and semi-mountains of these areas of Attica will be affected. In the third phase towards noon the phenomena will go to the Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese where we will see snow and towards Saturday afternoon the bad weather will subside.
On Sunday 29/12 the weather will gradually improve, with the phenomena being limited in Crete and the Dodecanese.
From 10:00 on Friday night, it is mandatory to equip cars of all categories with anti-slip chains or other similar anti-slip means in Attica.
