On the morning of the last Sunday of the year, the Falakro Ski Resort in Drama welcomed visitors eager to enjoy the snow. The road leading to the ski center was clear, with no need for snow chains. However, according to an announcement by the managing company, visitors are advised to carry chains in case of sudden weather changes.
The resort was initially scheduled to open on Saturday, December 28, but strong winds in the area delayed its opening to ensure visitor safety.
It is worth noting that Falakro Ski Resort remained closed throughout the previous winter season. Despite various challenges, its reopening was a significant goal and a pressing need for the local community and the market of Drama, offering many ski and winter sports enthusiasts a nearby option without needing to travel abroad.
In a statement, the Regional Vice Governor for Agricultural Economy, Environment, and Energy of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Argyris Patakakis, said, “Initially, two lifts will operate—Baby 1 Mesta and Beginners 1 Nestos, while ‘Pappous’ will open in the coming days, as it still lacks sufficient snow coverage.”
Mr. Patakakis added, “We are starting with the base area, including the café and the two lifts, and in the coming period, the four-seater chairlift will be operational after completing all the necessary procedures.” He also confirmed that the required operational permit from the ministry has been issued, and everything is ready to welcome visitors.
“For now, the road is open, but visitors are advised to carry snow chains, as the weather in Falakro can change quickly, and even a light snow cover can freeze and cause problems. Nevertheless, snow-clearing machinery is always on standby. The ski resort will be open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM,” concluded Mr. Patakakis.
