With high temperatures, southerly winds, and local showers mainly in the west, the weather is expected to roll on throughout the week, while a new wave of bad weather is expected to “hit” the country with snow, a drop in temperature,e and widespread rain from Sunday.

According to a post by the director of EMY, Thodoris Kolydas, for the weather, a big drop in temperature is expected with strong north winds and snow in the central and northern mountains.

He says “Mild weather until Saturday, while at the end of the week and specifically on Sunday and next Monday we will have a change in the weather with a drop in temperature, lots of rain and snow in the central and northern mountains.”

“Indicatively, the temperature from 16 to 17 degrees in Athens seems to drop to 10 to 11 degrees Celsius with very strong north winds,” he notes.

“Here comes cold air”

According to Sakis Arnaoutoglou, on Saturday night (11/9) and Sunday (12/9) a “ball of cold air” coming from northern Europe is expected to bring snow and drop the temperature significantly, especially in the northeast of the country. “How far south this “ball” will descend remains to be seen in the coming days,” the meteorologist stresses.

Negative temperatures in Northern Greece yesterday morning

Negative temperatures were recorded in Northern Greece on Tuesday morning 07/01. The table below shows the 8 stations of the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens network that recorded the lowest temperatures. At Fort Nefrokopi the minimum was equal to -2.5 °C, followed by Nefrokopi and Ptolemaida (-2.4 °C).

The weather on Thursday 09-01-2025

A few clouds, increasing in places, with the possibility of light local rain in the west, the eastern, and southern Aegean. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited and fog will form.

Winds will blow south-southwest 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally 5 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.

The temperature will not change significantly. It will fluctuate at higher than normal levels.

The weather on Friday 10-01-2025

In the west, the eastern and southern Aegean clouds with local rain, which will intensify in the northwest in the afternoon and in the eastern Aegean at night, with occasional thunderstorms, while a few snowfalls will fall in the northwestern mountains. In the rest of the country a few clouds, partly cloudy and partly cloudy in the north, with local rain from the afternoon and occasional thunderstorms at night. Winds in the west will blow east southeast 4 to 6 and gradually 7 to 8 Beaufort. In the east the winds will blow northeast 5 to 7 and in the Aegean Sea locally 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop significantly in northern and central Greece.
