Woman convicted for beating her 43-year-old military husband in Thessaloniki

The incident occurred in June 2022 - According to the 43-year-old his 49-year-old wife and former martial arts champion, reacted strongly when she saw him holding her mobile phone

A total sentence of 20 months in prison was imposed on a 49-year-old woman convicted of beating her husband in front of their children.

The woman was found guilty of domestic assault against her husband and judges decided to suspend her sentence for three years.

According to the testimony of the 43-year-old victim, who is an officer in the army and serves in a unit in Thessaloniki, it all happened on June 16, 2022 when the accused returned home from work. At that time, it seems that a fight started over the fact that the victim was holding her mobile phone, and then he stated that she attempted to choke him.

Specifically, the 43-year-old told judges that “she attacked me like a wild animal because she saw me holding her cell phone. Obviously she was scared of something, I only picked it up to make a call as mine had been switched off. Her eyes were glazing over, she was trying to choke me,” he said, among other things, stressing that he had severe scars from scratches, abrasions and scrapes from his wife’s nails.

In fact, the victim said he initially told police that he did not want the defendant prosecuted, as she threatened him that she would take their three minor children and never see them again. “I was afraid for the safety of my children, he said.

“I believe she wanted to kill me. Before this incident there were many others, her behaviour was bizarre throughout our marriage. She has slapped me in the past, cursed and threatened me. But what happened on June 16th doesn’t compare, I’ve really never seen her like that before, she wanted to hurt me. She is a former martial arts champion, I, although a military man, have not been trained for such situations,” he noted.

A witness police officer who saw the victim while on patrol and stopped to ask for help testified that he bore heavy marks on his neck, shoulders and back. “He told us that his wife tried to choke him in front of their children,” he said.
