The year 2024 was the hottest ever recorded, stated a spokesperson for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ahead of the release later today of a comprehensive report that incorporates findings from various regional climate monitoring institutes.

The report, expected to be released at 5:00 p.m. Geneva time (6:00 p.m. Greek time), will compare findings from meteorological observatories in Britain, China, the EU, and the USA, said spokesperson Clare Nullis.

“The WMO will confirm later that 2024 was the hottest year on record,” she said during a press conference in Geneva.

“We saw unusual temperatures on land and sea surfaces, unprecedented ocean heat, which was accompanied by very extreme weather events that affected many countries around the world, destroying lives, livelihoods, hopes, and dreams,” she added.
