Denmark recognizes that the United States has security interests in Arctic and is ready to discuss them with the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said Monday.
“We agree that the Americans have certain concerns about the security situation in the Arctic, which we share, and therefore, in close cooperation with Greenland, we are ready to continue discussions with the incoming US president in order to safeguard legitimate American interests,” he said, according to Reuters.
According to Axios, Denmark has sent private messages in recent days to the US president-elect’s team, expressing a willingness to discuss enhancing security in Greenland or increasing the US military presence on the island.
