The Search for Missing 39-Year-Old Psychologist Vassilis Kalogerou

The disappearance of 39-year-old psychologist Vassilis Kalogerou has drawn widespread attention, with the case being investigated on the show “Light at the Tunnel.” A combined effort by the show’s external crew, private investigator Giorgos Tsoukalis, and local authorities has focused on retracing his steps in Larissa, where he was last seen.

Surveillance Footage and the Investigation

The only confirmed evidence comes from a security camera that captured Vassilis walking alone and in good spirits toward the Pinios River. Despite extensive searches involving police, the fire brigade, EMAK rescue teams, specialized search dogs, and volunteers, no additional traces have been found.

Private investigator Giorgos Tsoukalis provided further insights:

  • Vassilis left his mobile phone and car at home before disappearing.
  • The phone, examined by the police and the family, showed no unusual activity beyond routine communications with relatives and work contacts.
  • He reportedly carried around €70 with him when he left.

A Profile of Vassilis

Tsoukalis describes Vassilis as an active, responsible, and structured individual who was deeply connected to his family and community. As a psychologist, he was seen as someone capable of handling personal challenges. “The possibility of suicide doesn’t align with his character or circumstances,” Tsoukalis stated, emphasizing that Vassilis was close to his family and lived a stable life.

He also addressed speculation that Vassilis’ disappearance might be linked to his mother’s high-profile role as an appellate prosecutor in the Tempi case. “Both the family and I have ruled out this scenario. The family is handling this ordeal with remarkable dignity despite their immense pain and unanswered questions.”

Dismissal of Monasticism and Other Speculations

A close friend of Vassilis dismissed the theory that he may have chosen a monastic life, explaining that although Vassilis had a strong belief in God, he had shown no inclination toward becoming a monk.

Eight substances found in George Mazonakis’s blood, including cocaine, family-appointed expert says

“He loved visiting monasteries, but he never expressed a desire to leave the world behind. Vassilis was an educated man, active in society. I don’t believe he would choose that path, nor would he leave his family in such agony for this long.”

The friend also rejected rumors about Vassilis’ psychological well-being, calling them baseless. “There’s no truth to claims that he wasn’t doing well mentally. He shared a deep bond with his family, and he wouldn’t have let them endure such torment without reason. I just want him to be found.”

A Family Waiting for Answers

For Vassilis’ family, the central question remains: why? With no evidence to explain his disappearance, they continue to wait, holding on to hope while maintaining their dignity. The search continues, fueled by love, determination, and the hope of bringing Vassilis back home.
