The shameful videos of the physical abuse suffered by the three-year-old boy in Heraklion, Crete, by his mother and her partner, which were found on the 44-year-old man’s mobile phone, have made policemen cringe.

The images of the scars from the blows to the little boy’s head and legs and the marks on his body from cigarette burns are shocking. They prove the torment that three-year-old Angelo lived in the hands of his mother and her partner.

The 26-year-old mother and her 44-year-old partner were taken to court yesterday morning with the man reportedly claiming the child fell and hit his head while the mother says she was away from home and when she returned she found her child unconscious.

The couple, who were given a deadline to enter a plea on Wednesday are charged with attempted aggravated manslaughter in a calm state of mind, causing grievous bodily harm in the commission of an aggravated assault and battery, possession of a weapon in the commission of an aggravated assault, supply and possession of drugs for personal and exclusive use.

The spokeswoman of the National Police, Constantia Demoglidou, in an interview noted: “A forensic examination has been ordered on the child to see how long he was abused by these people. It is understood that the situation is quite serious and we don’t know if a forensic doctor can examine him yet, but certainly, the first picture that the doctors gave the police officers is serious. The child bears injuries, which are not of the same day, and has been abused quite a lot. The two perpetrators blame each other and one of them is a drug user. Furthermore, an investigation was conducted by the National Police at the house where the child was abused and many pieces of evidence have been removed there are photos from all over the place which will be taken into consideration along with the rest of the case file.”

A battle for his life is on for 3-year-old Angelos

The child has suffered severe head injuries, numerous contusions, and abrasions. He has already undergone surgery for some of his injuries and is being treated in the Pagni Children’s ICU in a critical condition.

According to Pagni’s commander, Giorgios Chalkiadakis, his condition is very difficult to reverse.

Regarding the admission of the three-year-old to the hospital and the procedure followed due to his bad condition, the PAGNI governor said that “the child came in a bad condition, the necessary tests were done and he immediately went into surgery. He had an acute subdural hematoma on the left side, the operation was performed and he was intubated in the pediatric ICU, where doctors made superhuman efforts to keep him alive, as apart from the hematoma on the head, he had other problems that needed to be treated. The rest of his body had ecchymosis, but the most serious thing is that he had diffuse intravascular coagulation, which is a very serious condition, extremely rare in a 3-year-old child. That was treated. It comes from several factors. This is not from abuse. A forensic examination has been done and we’re waiting for the conclusion. Those directly involved with the child have been notified.”
