The German Chancellor meets Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Berlin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he and the Danish prime minister will continue talks on security in the Baltic Sea in Berlin today and pointed to a recent incident in the region as an indication of the growing threat posed by Russia.

“Just yesterday there was another report of another undersea cable damaged. This shows the threat posed by the Russian shadow fleet,” Scholz said ahead of his meeting with Mete Frederiksen.

For her part, the Danish prime minister said today that Europe must strengthen its security and defence to counter Russian and Chinese influence on the European continent, pointing to recent incidents in the Baltic Sea and the war in Ukraine.

“We are seeing Russian hybrid attacks in Europe, in the Baltic Sea… We need a stronger and more determined Europe that stands up more for what is right,” Frederiksen said ahead of her meeting with Chancellor Scholz in Berlin.
