Clear about the Trump administration’s intentions on immigration, the minister responsible, Tim Homan, appeared to be clear when asked to respond to to the cries of Selena Gomez, who claimed in a social media video “all my people are under attack”.
“If they don’t like it, let them go to Congress and change the law. We’re going to go forward with this operation without apology,” Homan said, speaking to Fox News.
“We’re going to make society safer … It’s all for the good of our nation. And we will continue. We are not apologizing. We continue,” Homman asserted.
Celena Gomez’s tears
In a very moving video she posted on Instagram, which she has since deleted, however, 32-year-old Selena Gomez broke down in tears talking about the deportation of undocumented Mexicans and immigrants in general – a policy that has sparked fears and strong reactions.
“All my people are under attack, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll do anything, I promise,” Gomez said in her video, which even featured a Mexico flag.
It’s worth noting that her – Texas-born -Gomez’s father is of Mexican descent, while her mother has Italian roots. The star herself declares herself a “proud third-generation American-Mexican.”
Shortly afterwards, Gomez was forced to take down the video, without explaining much about why. She simply settled for writing in a new post, “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”
