ELSTAT: Unemployment in Greece fell to 9.4% in December

The number of employed persons amounted to 4,267,593, an increase of 35,656 compared to December 2023

The unemployment rate in the country fell to 9.4% last December, down from 10.4% in December 2023 and a downwardly revised 9.5% in November 2024.

Unemployed people totaled 443,639, down 48,529 from December 2023 (9.9%) and down 6,124 from November 2024 (1.4%).

For women, the unemployment rate rose to 11.3% from 13.1% in December 2023 and for men to 8% from 8.2%.

By major age groups, in the 15-24 age group the unemployment rate was 21% from 23.7% in December 2023, and in the 25-74 age group it was 8.9% from 9.6%.

According to the ELSTAT labour force survey, the number of employed persons amounted to 4,267,593, an increase of 35,656 compared to December 2023 (0.8%) and a decrease of 10,579 compared to November 2024 (0.2%).

While, persons under 75 years of age who are not included in the labor force, or “persons outside the labor force” (i.e., persons not working or looking for work), totaled 3,053,783 persons, a decrease of 10,816 persons compared to December 2023 (0.4%) and an increase of 14,551 persons compared to November 2024 (0.5%).
