A fire broke out yesterday, Wednesday night, at Switzerland’s oldest luxury hotel, in the heart of Geneva, causing it to be evacuated, according to local media.
The fire occurred at the Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues, a five-star hotel that opened in 1834 and is one of Geneva’s best known.
There were no injuries, its manager, Pedro Nora, told Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes, adding that customers were being taken to nearby hotels.
Firefighters used cranes to reach the flames on the roof.
According to the public broadcaster RTS network, the fire broke out around 21:30 (local time, 22:30 GMT). The cause of the fire, which was quickly brought under control, remains unknown, RTS added.
The hotel in question hosts regularly hosts important events, such as Christie’s jewelry auctions.
