Washington: a pair of Russian former world figure skating champions were on board the plane that crashed

Two famous Russian figure skaters were aboard the airliner that crashed in Washington, according to Russian media.

According to Russia’s Tass news agency, Yevgenia Siskova and Vadim Naumov, who were a couple in life, were among the 64 passengers on board the passenger plane that crashed into the icy waters of the Potomac River last Wednesday night (in the early hours of today’s Greek time) after colliding with an army air force helicopter.

The pair had won the world championship in pairs figure skating in 1994.

It is not clear at this stage whether there are any survivors from the plane crash that has shocked the US. The CBS News television network reported earlier that 18 bodies had been recovered.
