Determined not to let the government “surrender” to the flow of events is Kyriakos Mitsotakis, despite the escalating political pressure from the opposition, which is expected to translate into a motion of impeachment around the end of February when the findings of the NMP and EDOSAM will be made public. So after the political repositioning he made with the Alpha interview, the prime minister is expected to pick up the thread from there and send messages to many recipients from the current cabinet.
According to protothema.g reports, the prime minister will send a stern message to government ministers and is expected to stress that it is unthinkable for him to be self-critical and for them not to perform accordingly. Mitsotakis is expected to stress that in light of the new facts in the Tebes case, new data on the government’s duties are also being created.
After all, as Mitsotakis often mentions, the government was voted in by the citizens with the expectation of efficiency and therefore everyone should focus even more on the efficiency of the government’s work. “Acceleration of government work and seriousness from everyone” is the message emanating from the government staff, although close associates of the Prime Minister do not deny that the next few weeks will be uphill, and in any case, the government no longer sets the agenda on its initiative.
It is recalled that Mitsotakis sent with his interview on Alpha a message within the government for modesty towards the relatives of the victims of the tragedy and asked for the avoidance of controversy. Notably, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias yesterday sparked several discussions by telling SKAI that if the forthcoming findings are as described, then Mitsotakis “will take the heads of all those who are involved and have misinformed, those who may have done their job poorly at the political level, because the rest will be found by the judiciary.” It remains, of course, to be seen whose heads Mitsotakis can take.
It is recalled that in the case of Tempi, the current deputy minister of Mr. Kikilias, Christos Triandopoulos, played a central role, while in recent days the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, has been in the midst of crossfire.
Hristosakis, who has also been a member of the Greek government, has been a member of the Greek government.
The motion of impeachment
Mitsotakis was reportedly not surprised by Androulakis’ announcement that he will file a motion of impeachment against the government if there is new evidence from the findings. The prime minister is expected to make a report during his introduction to the ministerial, decrying Androulakis’ choice as an attempt to instrumentalize the anger of relatives and society.
“Mr. Androulakis confirms the view that the opposition’s concern is to reap political benefits from a tragedy, a tragic accident. I think that is the conclusion. Any proposal is welcome,” government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said yesterday.
Front with Hellenic Train and reshuffle
The government, in any case, has decided to hold the company Hellenic Train accountable, especially if it turns out that illegal cargo was being carried on the commercial train despite its knowledge. This was the message sent yesterday by the government spokesman and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, while Christos Staikouras (Talk Radio 98.9) went a step further by not ruling out the possibility of re-nationalizing the trains if it turns out in a second year that the company is not fulfilling its contractual obligations.
Given, however, that the Italian state holds a majority stake in Hellenic Train’s parent company, Mitsotakis is expected to discuss the railways issue with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni in Rome on February 19.
Moscow will meet with Italian Prime Minister Antonio Monti on February 19
Yesterday, however, was rich in background, with the phones between Megaro Maximou-Ministerial Affairs and New Democracy MPs “lighting up” as to the next day of the Prime Minister’s interview. All believe that now the reformation of the government is a realistic possibility for the next period and the possibility of “breaking” the Ministry of Infrastructure, to create an autonomous Ministry of Transport with emphasis on the issues of the daily life of public transport.
