As he had previously announced, Donald Trump signed an executive order regarding trans athletes competing alongside women, officially prohibiting their joint participation.
The order reverses policies implemented during Biden’s administration, which were enacted from the very first day of the former president’s term. Its enforcement will be immediate.
In a brief address, standing before an enthusiastic crowd and surrounded by young girls, Trump described his order as “historic” and added: “It was about time.”

Specifically, the executive order will alter the way the government interprets a civil rights law concerning sex-based discrimination in schools receiving federal funding, including athletics.
It will target schools and sports associations that “deny women single-sex sports and single-sex locker rooms.” Additionally, it will instruct state attorneys general to determine best practices for implementing the order.
“We want to take action to ensure the positive protection of women’s sports,” a senior Trump advisor told ABC News, adding that the order will overturn Biden-era policies that required schools and athletic organizations to treat gender identity and biological sex as equivalent.
LGBTQ+ rights groups have warned that Trump’s order could create a hostile environment for students across the country.
Official Government Policy: “There Are Only Two Genders”
Trump had addressed the issue during his inaugural speech, stating: “The official policy of the United States government is that there are only two genders: male and female.”
In an order signed immediately after, he instructed the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security to ensure that passports, visas, and other official government documents recognize only male and female as the two exclusive gender options.
Government agencies will also be prohibited from promoting gender transition, and prisons will receive directives to prevent taxpayer funds from being used to finance gender transition procedures.
