More than thirty people were missing yesterday Saturday in a village in China due to a landslide in Szechwan province in the southwestern part of the country, public television network CCTV reported.
The disaster unfolded around 11:50 (local time; 05:50 GMT) in the village of Jinping, near Yibin. “Ten houses were buried alive, more than 30 people were declared missing and about 200 were rushed away and taken to reception centers, CCTV explained.
The emergency management ministry said search and rescue teams were rushing to the scene and looking for survivors. Two people were rescued, according to the same source.
Search and rescue teams advised residents to hurriedly evacuate the village as the landslide was still continuing.
Chinese President Chi Jinping ordered authorities to do everything to “rescue missing people, minimize the number of casualties and properly manage the consequences of the disaster.”
Authorities have released 30 million yuan (about 4 million euros) to support search and rescue operations.
