The prospects opening up in bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as issues related to regional developments were discussed today in Cairo by President Christodoulides and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
According to a statement issued by the Cyprus Presidency, the President of the Republic of Cyprus arrived this morning in Cairo, to attend, together with his Egyptian counterpart, the signing ceremony of an Agreement, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Cyprus, Egypt and the companies operating in the Cypriot EEZ.
Immediately after his arrival in Cairo, President Christodoulides went to the Al-Manara Conference Center, where the EGYPES 2025 exhibition is being held, and was received by President Sisi. Afterwards, the two Presidents attended a bilateral meeting.
Energy Cooperation
During their meeting, the two Presidents stressed the great importance of the Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding for the energy cooperation between the two countries. They also pointed out that through them, the energy cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt is being put on track for substantial implementation.
During the meeting, which was attended by the delegations of the two countries, the next energy goals and milestones were discussed and the importance of further developing energy cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt, both at bilateral and regional level, as it is a model of cooperation and promotion of peace, stability and development in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Bilateral relations
They also discussed regional and international developments, EU-Egypt relations and bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt in the context of the results of the 2nd Intergovernmental Summit between the two countries, as well as the 10th Trilateral Summit with Greece.
Apart from the Energy sector, the two countries further discussed cooperation in various sectors, such as Tourism, Trade, Investment, as well as the issue of seasonal employment of Egyptians in Cyprus.
Finally, President Christodoulides briefed President Sisi on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the efforts being made to resume the negotiations from the point where they have been interrupted and in particular on the preparations in view of the expanded meeting to be convened by the UN Secretary General.
