After about 4.5 hours, the talks between the delegations of the USA and Russia to end the war in Ukraine were completed.
Russia’s chief foreign policy advisor, Yuri Ushakov, stated that the negotiations “went well” and were “a serious discussion on all issues.” He also noted that the terms for a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin were discussed, though he pointed out that it is unlikely to take place next week.
On his side, the head of the Russian Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, told Channel One of Russian state television: “A very positive, constructive dialogue has begun. Unlike the Biden administration, which never tried to listen to Russia’s position, this was a very clear attempt to start a dialogue, understand Russia’s position, and discuss the things we agree on.”
He added, “There are many points where we agree… we got to know each other much better… we understand each other much better now.”
On the American side, the negotiating team included US Secretary of State Mark Rubio, Trump’s National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and White House envoy for the Middle East Steve Whitcoff.
From the Russian delegation, the team included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov. Additionally, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Investment Fund, was also part of the Russian delegation.
