Adonis Georgiadis on Tempi: There is no cover-up, I am neither a murderer nor a smuggler

The Minister of Health dismissed any scenario of a cover-up in the Tempi case – “We should not automatically assume that whatever the crowd in the square says is correct.”

Newsroom February 20 01:00

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis appeared outraged by the rumors of a cover-up in the Tempi case, taking aim at politicians who try to “pander” to the crowds in the squares.

“There is no cover-up. Period. I apologize for getting carried away, but this personally offends me. No, I am neither a murderer nor a smuggler, nor am I covering up for criminals,” Georgiadis emphasized in an interview with SKAI radio.

At the same time, he took a jab at how politicians respond to public sentiment. “We should not automatically, instantly, and unquestionably assume that whatever the crowd in the square says is right. It doesn’t work that way. If the crowd were always right, then the crowd that shouted ‘Barabbas’ instead of ‘Jesus’ would have been right. That’s not how things go. And it’s not the job of politicians to say, ‘Oh, wonderful square, how beautifully you speak.’ Sometimes, the crowd can talk nonsense—just like the ‘Indignants’ did.”
