Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Chinese counterpart Whang Yi to discuss a wide range of issues, including relations with the US and the conflict in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said today.
The two ministers met on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in South Africa.
“The parties praised the development of political dialogue and practical interaction between Russia and China as a stabilizing factor against the climate of ongoing instability in the global system,” the ministry’s statement said.
Earlier today, state news agency TASS reported, citing a statement by Lavrov, that the next meeting with Wang will take place soon in Moscow.
In late January, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed how to build relations with U.S. President Donald Trump, along with the prospects for a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine and Moscow’s firm support for Beijing’s position on the Taiwan issue.
